The roses are not red.

I love roses, and I love fresh roses in my home. I’m not that fond of red roses, because I guess it has been over commercialized. I love pink, white, peach, and orange roses. If the rose has a few of all those colors in one, then my heart is just elated.

I few days ago I went to ALDI’S just to get one thing, they have a really good sour dough sliced bread that I enjoy immensely, but I also got 1/2dozen roses. I’m not certain how I have missed the flower section before. I guess when I get a bit focused on one thing, that’s it.

It was a bargain at $3.99. Since this was my first time purchasing flowers from here I felt it was just the right of amount to spend on risk. So as to get the best flowers, it is a great idea to check the freshness of the flowers. The petals didn’t look bruised, and the leaves still had a vibrant green color, the stems were firm, and not slimy. I made sure I found some flowers that weren’t too open, if they were fully opened, it meant they are at their peak, meaning less time for you to enjoy. I squeezed the base of each flower looking for firmness, you want a little firmness.

when I got home I found a vase and washed it clean, this is imperative to keeping them fresh. I measured the flowers against the height of the vase to determine how long I needed to keep the stems. I filled the vase with semi cold water and cut each stem at a 45 degree angle. I stripped away the leaves, as I didn’t want leaves in the water, they leaves are a no no in the water. I place my roses in the water and placed them on the dining room table. They looked so wonderful, instant smile on my face.

Adding a few temporary items like flowers to a space instantly provides a hit of happiness.

To keep the roses fresh.

  1. Change the water every 2-3 days,

  2. Wash out the vase before refilling with water.

  3. Cut them stems at a 45 degree angle before returning them to the vase.

  4. Keep away from heat, and out of direct sunlight, the roses love a cooler room.

  5. Enjoy.

  6. BONUS you can add a little bleach to the water and or a little sugar or both to keep them fresher longer.

I’m not that keen on red roses, but you fill you home with what makes you happy, in the end that’s all that matters.
